Pennsylvannia Dutch Country

November 18th - November 21st

We left for Lancaster, PA on Sunday morning in rain and sleet. I had no idea how the RV would handle in the weather, so we had a leisurely drive out. The rain/sleet turned to sleet & snow.

We arrived at the Old Mill Stream campground early in the afternoon and went through setting up the RV. Once the beast was level, I had to leave the warm RV to make the electric, water, & waste connections. Someday I well remember to make sure the water hose has been tightened completely before turning the water on.

The campground is a nice little place just off what seemed to be the main drag of Lancaster. It is surprisingly quiet and peaceful. I am sure that changes in the summertime.

The weather did not improve over the next few days. We did visit a couple of neighboring towns to do some shopping and visit a train museum. I had intended on going to some of Lancaster County's 29 covered bridges, but never got a chance.

Wednesday, were supposed to leave Lancaster and head up to another campsite up near the Cabela's store in Hamburg. Before leaving Old Mill Stream, I went to fill the propane tank on the RV. We emptied it on this trip. We went almost a whole year without the tank gauge moving off 2/3 full. Then when I do need propane, the campground only had 9 gallons left in their tank when I needed 30.

Just outside Lancaster I thought I smelled propane. We stopped only to find out fluid pouring out of the area near the propane tank. It didn't have any odor so I drove on. We passed an RV dealer and I turned around to see if we had a major problem. They tested the propane system and found that it was ok. He said the odor inside smelled like we had a waste leak. Great! He recommended that I take it to a Winnebago dealership.

We decided to cut the trip short and head home. I called our "local" dealer and set up an appointment to have it looked at. It turned out to be two loose pipes on the black & gray tanks.

We drove back to Pete & Joie's house Thanksgiving to celebrate the holiday. We had a great time. We also had a flat tire on the way home. The roads of Pennsylvannia were not kind to us on this trip.
