Harrington, DE

September 6th - September 9th

We headed down to Harrington, Delaware for the Delaware Good Sam Samboree at the Delaware State Fair Grounds. We took advantage of their Early Bird arrival, a day early. We also visited the casino on the property. That night, there was a show put on by a singer, Mountain John. He had the deepest voice I have ever heard.

Friday, we all headed to Dover Air Force Base to visit the Air Transport Museum. There was a drawing on each of the three buses for a chance to try the flight simulator. I was one of the winners. The other winner on our bus was a former pilot who flew in Vietnam. I did pretty well considering that only the rudder and elevator controls were operational. One of the aircraft at the museum was a B-17. I had seen one before from a distance. We could get into the bomb bay. It is amazing that it only carried a few tons of bombs, 6 or 7, if I remember correctly. They had a crew of ten. The Friday after we got back, I was playing golf in Oak Ridge when a B-17 flew right over our heads.

The opening ceremonies were held Friday night.

Saturday, Joyce and I took a ride to a small farm store at few miles from the campground. Most of the products for sale were the same as Whole Foods carries.

The evening entertainment was Carl Acuff, a relative of Roy Acuff. He was great! He and his band played all types of music from folk to pop.

We went to the closing ceremonies then had a meeting of our little group. There were 238 rigs at the Samboree. The program was put together very well. The facilities were excellent. We had a great time.
