New Jersey Samboree 2008

June 26th - June 29th

We headed down to Buena, NJ for our second Samboree. This was our first as members of a local chapter and where we knew a lot of other RV'ers. There were five or six couples from our group, the Jersey Pioneers.

The highlight, or low light, was the Miss New Jersey beauty pageant where some guys were conned into dressing up in drag and parading around in front of hundreds of people. They seemed to enjoy the spectacle.

Yes, I was one of the five contestants who got conned into acting like a fool. I went to Nordstrom's for a dress and couldn't find one I liked. I did find one at the Salvation Army's outlet in Pompton Lakes and it was on sale, $2.49 reduced from $4.99. A long black, witch's wig, two plush toy balls, from the dollar store, and a really sad makeup job rounded out my ensemble.

It was very hot that night and the makeup ran and the hair stuck to my face. My boobs were drenched with sweat by the time I was able to go back to the RV and get out of the costume.

As far as who won, there was some question as to whether nepotism had played some part in the judging. I didn't expect to win, but the winner was not the best dressed. First place went to a former officer in the club and the second place went to a member of the State President's chapter. Hum!

All in all, we had a great time. We have pictures of the contest, but I haven't worked up the courage to look at them as of yet. If I find one I consider the least horrible, I will post it to the blog.
