Gardiner, NY

May 21st - May 24th

We're on the road again. The frig and the leaky shower faucet have been fixed. The destination on this trip is the Lazy River Campgrounds, http://www.lazyriverny.com/, in Gardiner, NY. The town is located about eight miles southwest of New Paltz.

Our site was located in a grove of trees between two huge open fields. I was told that both fields will be filled with tent campers for the Memorial Day weekend. We set up the RV connections for water, electrical, etc. After lunch, we explored the campground and took a ride around the area.

Tuesday, we went to New Paltz to visit the shops at the Water Street Market. We got there to find out that New Paltz is closed on Tuesday. We ended up in a supermarket picking up something for dinner. We did go back Wednesday and browsed through the shops. If anyone wants Tibetan rugs, that is the place. Some of the 4' x 6' rugs were in the $1800 price range. We had BBQ chicken salad panini sandwiches for lunch. We visited some antique stores after lunch.

Wednesday evening we went back to New Paltz to The Gilded Otter Brewing Co., http://www.gildedotter.com/ for dinner. Wednesday is "kids eat free" night at the Gilded Otter. We seemed to be the only couple there without kids. The food, Bistro Steaks topped with Bleu Cheese Shallot Butter, and the beer were very good. It was the first time I have ever seen Joyce drink beer.

New Paltz seemed to be inhabited by yuppie/hippie 30 somethings. It may be against the law in New Paltz to be over 40. Everybody we talked to were very nice.....but young.

We will be going back Lazy River in July.
